Holiday Reflection

I used my holiday time to reflect on the past year - in both commercial and personal terms - to work through what I should set as my personal context for the coming year.  This always helps me to set my business goals and ensure that they are aligned with my personal context.

This is an exercise that I have done for the last five years, to ensure that I am focusing on the right source activity to continue to shift my energy and to create the outcomes that I am seeking.  At this stage I am settling on "AND" as my context for the next year (as opposed to the word "OR"), meaning:

  • Cultural and commercial outcomes;
  • Personal wealth and business profits;
  • Strong personal relationships with clients and strong commercial expectations with the clients and referral sources; and
  • Strong internal relationships and strong commercial expectations of coaches and staff.

Oops, I almost forgot to mention that the Rugby World Cup is underway for those of you who may have missed this important information. The family and I had the most amazing experience going to Cardiff, to the amazing Millennium Stadium to see the Wallabies grind out a win against the Welsh.

I have learned the value of having the time to pre-plan the next phase of both my business and my personal life.  Getting a clear context by which to manage all the decisions I will have to make as they apply to my activity for the ensuing year has an amazing power to create clarity.

The relief of living my life with less attachment to outcomes - I will confess that this is a work in progress!  How much easier it is to live my life by making decisions and responding to events with a positive view.

I feel energised and excited by the year ahead and all the possibilities that it holds for both Shirlaws and me.  And I feel grateful for the friendships that I have and the impact and value that they add to my life.

Andrew - your thoughts hit the mark! I would be interested to know how you have applied this positive approach to your own life and business. Any tips? regards Jimmy

Personal goal setting and a positive approach will asist in achieving. Marcus Aurelius Roman Emperor and philosopher said , " a man's life is what his thoughts make of it". Another personal inspiration which sits with the coaching experience is "mans mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to it's original shape"- Oliver Wendell Howard author.
