My Kids as Teachers

I'm blessed with having two wonderful daughters - both aged 10, going on 20. They are identical to look at but very different in personality and style.

Both teach me so much about myself and about life.  This week was no exception.

On Sunday we were listening to them both do their piano recitals for an upcoming performance at school.  Isabella chose a piece that was, in all honesty, a really simple one.  The one I thought she would choose - a more complex tune (and which she plays beautifully) she thought was ‘too hard'.

We spoke about why she felt it was hard. It was because there was one particular bar about half way through that she always got muddled up on.  I encouraged her to choose that piece for the Wednesday performance as there were two days to go before the big night.

Begrudgingly, she said "Ok."

She practiced it a few times and I encouraged her to slow down the tempo somewhat.

On Sunday night when she was in bed and I was tucking her in, out of the blue she said:

"Daddy I want you to know that I believe in myself and I am going to do the piece on Wednesday."

For me, the words that counted were "I believe in myself."  What a huge thing to say at age 10.

Well on the night of the performance, Isabella played her piece and out of all the kids who performed (including her twin sister), she was the only one not to make a mistake.

I sat down with her yesterday and acknowledged her not only for playing beautifully, working at it, and believing in herself, but for reminding me to believe in myself - no matter what.

It was a great reminder that if I truly believe in myself I can accomplish anything I choose to.

I thank the universe for the countless blessings I have and the important messages that come my way in so many differing forms.

Hello Ak Great to check in and enjoy the lesson from Isabella. I'll remember to believe in myself, especially when I forget! Great to share at lunch too, and to start germinating the creative seeds about some coaching for GHD. Leah
