Here's an interesting observation: Business is all about People - owners, staff, clients. People respond to Expectations and Communication. And Communication is really about setting Expectations.
So ... Business is all about Expectations.
Have a quick review of your business - especially the Sales process. What expectations do you set? Which do you fail to meet? Which do you deliver against, and how often do you attempt to exceed expectations? And what impact does this have on the energy of the people around you?
The Importance of Expectations
This is a nice example of when expectations aren't set, and how easily they can be, from a business owner's personal experience.
If you haven't tried tipping your way into a top restaurant yet, then this exploration of how restaurants make their profits might help set your dining-out expectations. Basic point: Don't expect to eat at 7.30, unless you make it clear just how much wine you plan to drink.
What does gender have to do with expectations? It seems that women not only have different expectations of their colleagues, they also have different expectations of themselves, which may hold some back from leadership roles where they could make a positive difference.
