Welcome

Whether you saw it coming or are a recent convert, it is now clear: next year will pose every business with different conditions. Here is my question for you this week:

What are you doing differently to respond to these conditions?

I have three dates you should be aware of:

February 4 - Darren Shirlaw will be in Brisbane.
Having taken our coaching business global, and now London-based, Darren is returning to Brisbane to discuss how businesses can 'Thrive, not Survive' next year. Places will be available for this once-only workshop.

March 5 + 6 - Shirlaws' 'Opportunity is Now' Conference on the Gold Coast.
Each year we open one of our conferences for attendance by business leaders, and each year it keeps getting better. In 2009 this will be held in Queensland - an Opportunity I recommend.

Today - Today is the day you can start making a difference. Whether it's information (like this newsletter), workshops, or speaking with a business coach, today is the day you can make it happen. Things are different this Christmas - are you planning a Strategy Day to maximise 2009, or burying your head in silly-season sand?

The Man Who Sold Hotdogs
This is definitely a recession...if you want it to be.

He Who Laughs Last (Video)
Best video I've seen in a while, with three key learnings. 1) The current economic shock was not completely unforeseen. 2) Many who had the opportunity to see it coming, laughed it off. 3) I can only hope that right now there's an analyst on a news network somewhere being laughed at for wildly optimistic comments about a turnaround.

What to Expect from a Recession
From Darren Shirlaw, an analysis of recession trends and why this one is different. What if you knew what happens next?
If you learn from this, Darren's workshop on Feb 4 is a must.

The Venti Recession
The more Starbucks your country has, the worse your recession will be. In Australia they recently closed 61 Starbucks. Good news? So it seems...

Intranet Joke of the Week

I lent my brother $10 last week.
Turns out I'm now the third largest bank in America.
