A lot of people my team speak with are talking about 'Planning to Survive 2009'. Mistake!
I'm reading plenty of articles discussing how to 'Make it Through the Year'. Ignore!
You need to Plan to Thrive in 2009. Slowdown, Recession, Crunch, whatever, it doesn't matter - setting your sights on the bare minimum means you only let yourself and your team down.
Be efficient. Act smart. *If* things get worse for you, work through with a daily focus as best you can. Just promise me, promise me, that you will see these as steps on the path to a thriving business.
Planning to do anything less is just accepting that you want to be 12 months behind every other business.
The Five Mistakes of a Recession
As we face the uncertainty of this year, take this opportunity to learn from someone else's experience rather than your own. How much growth will you achieve this year on your own (lots)? How much more when you can leverage an expert?
The First Time CEO's Guide to a Downturn
In my opinion, this is a timely guide for any CEO, and at every stage of the market cycle. If you own a small business, I'm declaring you a CEO right now.
January is a popular month for business planning. Have you Planned to Thrive in '09? And if so (or if not), is your business plan any more realistic than this? To succeed "most of the customers in the bank must happen to be wearing Nixon masks".
Everyone seems to be asking "Are we there yet?" My question is, regardless of whether we are there yet or not, what are you doing differently in 2009? It's a different year, doing the same thing won't suffice, so what are you doing to benefit from the changes around you?
Intranet Joke of the Week
And finally, a a warning for all our Nigerian readers. Be wary of Americansdiscussing money in emails. This is a Scam.
Until next week,
