Vision or Mirage?

Some people are visionary - they can see amazing possibilities, and believe in those enough to help create them. Some of us are goal setters - we like to set a target, and work better when we have that goal in mind. Still others are focussed on the present - asking what they can achieve now to improve their future.

At times, all three question where they're headed. Are they building a greater future, or have they committed themselves to a mirage?

The difference is not, as it may appear, to quickly shift from a Vision into implementation. The difference is taking the time to build a Strategy around your vision. It is good strategy which confirms your vision is true and your future is great.

What can you see ahead? Or have you lost sight in the day-to-day minutiae?

Feel your Vision

Another distinction explored here is the difference between just having targets, and actually feeling the future you want to create. No prizes for guessing which you are more likely to attach to and achieve - it's why Shirlaws talks about the impact of feelings on your business, your baby.

What does one Trillion Dollars look like?

If you have a big vision, go for it. If your vision is this big, I'd suggest your Strategy include getting your forklift licence.

One Space or Two

Do you put one space or two after a full stop? Which looks better, and which is grammatically correct? My team won this discussion, which reminds me to thank those readers who noticed my intentional lolcats typo last week (click through the misspelling for a pictorial explanation).

Tactile Illusions to try at home

Here are some nifty ways to fool your mind - legally, and at home. (Though I'm confident you won't wait, which means all around Brisbane there will be people crossing their fingers and rolling their tongues!)

Intranet Joke of the Week

Dan discovered that he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, so he decided he needed a wife with which to share his fortune. One evening at a restaurant he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away.

"I may look like just an ordinary man," he said to her, "but in just a few years, my father will die, and I will inherit 20 million dollars."

Impressed, the woman obtained his business card, and three days later she became his stepmother.

Men get Vision. Women are so much better at Strategy.

Until next week,
