I firstly want to welcome all of the new readers - since we asked for introductions two weeks ago the number of recipients has grown by almost 50%!

I can't tell you how energising that it for my team - so keep an eye out in future weeks for this button

With Winter approaching and a Recession set to become official on June 3rd, the Energy in business is a timely subject. This week's Business Links all relate to some key aspects of Energy - Health, Expectations, Revenue ... and Coffee.

And a reminder about next Wednesday's strategic workshop - we have 3 places remaining in what will be an invigorating event. If sustainable strategy would energise your business, register today and we will see you next week.

Fancy a Virtual Tour de France
Talking about team training sessions doesn't burn nearly as many calories as actually doing something. Let me recommend you look at this opportunity - get fit, as a team, on Brisbane's only virtual reality cycling course.

Managing Expectations
I've talked about Expectations before - here is a simple way to examine your client base now to ensure you keep the most profitable customers (and attract more), without breaking the bank, at a time when many businesses react by reducing service.

Never Negotiate a Payrise Again
Here's a radical idea - have transparent, consistent salaries so that all staff know everyone's income. Radical, sure, but it does demonstrate that constant gripes about income usually mean that other, often non-monetary, issues are affecting your staff's energy. (Go here for a discussion on why salaries are normally kept confidential)

Guide to Good Coffee
Perhaps a timely link, since many readers no doubt combine Business Links with their Friday morning coffee. I will gladly drink any coffee (as long as it's strong), so the thought of putting in effort to improve it - not for me. How's the cup of joe you're drinking right now? Needs improvement?

Intranet Joke of the Week

A young man from the city went to visit his uncle on a farm, and it became clear after only a few days that the nephew was getting bored with chickens, cows, and crop rotation stories.
Wanting to energise his guest (and get some work done himself) the uncle had an idea. "There's no one around here for miles. Why don't you grab a gun, take the dogs, and go shooting?" This seemed to cheer the nephew up, and off he went, dogs in trail.
That afternoon, the nephew returned. "How did you enjoy that?" asked the uncle.
"It was great!" exclaimed the nephew. "Got any more dogs?"

Until next week, happy hunting,
Jacob Aldridge and the Shirlaws Team
