Once More with Feeling

Have you ever walked out of a business meeting and felt that your message just wasn't being heard?
I know I have, so I'm working on a few tips to help. One of these is understanding different communication styles - we all process information on a 'Thinking', 'Feeling', and 'Knowing' level, so understanding where other people are processing at any one time allows me to tailor and improve my communication.
You can find more information here - this week I thought I would focus on the Feeling aspect. After all, every business is run by a human being, and we are all affected by how we feel.
Did you know that communication in a feeling space is enhanced through Pictures, Stories, and Music?
How often do you use those in a business meeting?
Does your Blog have a Soundtrack?
Mine doesn't - note the current lack of sounds - but if it did? I'd like to start you off with the uplifting mellowness of What a Wonderful World, and then spark you to action with Rose Tattoo reminding us that We Can't be Beaten.
The Benefits of Graphs and Drawing
Or, more simply, 'Why I like Pie'.
Sunk Cost and the Crack Cocaine of Auction Sites
There's no doubt feelings can compel people to irrational things, like spend more on an auction website than they would going down to the shops. So is it wrong to build a business that preys on that addiction? (And note the author's follow up - "still probably evil".)
Brains, Beliefs and Growth Blunders
Internal to your business, or even your human experience, are some core Values and Beliefs that impact how you feel in a situation. How can you make sure they continue to help?
Intranet Joke of the Week
Little Johnny bursts into the house, crying his eyes out, so his mother comes rushing over to see what the problem is.
"Dad and I were out fishing," Johnny tells, "and he hooked a giant fish. Really big. And I mean REALLY big, a real beauty. And then while dad was reeling it in, the line busted and the fish got away."
"Now come on Johnny," says his mother, "a big boy like you shouldn't be crying about an accident like that. Why, you should have laughed."
"But mum," cries Johnny, "that's exactly what I did!"
Until next week,
