Pushback is Positive

If you've ever been involved with change management, for small business or for a massive corporation, you'll know how frustrating it can be when the 'big picture' meets resistance and push back from within.
My coaching mentor, however, flips the coin on pushback, demonstrating that it's a necessary and positive step on the path to achievement.
You see, pushback is a natural response to actual change. It's only when pushback occurs that you know people are engaging with the process, are trying on new things, and that they've moved beyond listening and into actual implementation.
Certainly, we have steps to minimise resistance. But avoiding pushback only avoids helping your business, and the people within it, to change and grow.

Change is emotional, so focus on the emotions. As anyone with kids or a social network will tell you, logical discussion doesn't always (ever?) produce a solution. But care for people, and you just might be surprised.
Are you Stressed?
If phrases like 'change management' cause you physical distress, you're not alone. For most people, however, frustration and stress aren't that obvious, which is why this simple checklist was designed.
Visualizing the Entire Path
Business author Seth Godin wrote "If your organisation requires success before commitment, it will never have either." So is it better to know exactly how you're going to achieve something, or just set a vision, trust your team's capability, and take the first step?
How many people are in Space right now?
When it comes to big picture change, I always think of Humanity and Space. Here's a nifty site that updates constantly how many people are in space right now (best answer - all of us!).
Intranet Joke of the Week
Late one night a wife finds her husband standing over their newborn baby's cot, his face a mix of emotions, disbelief, doubt, enchantment and amazement.
Touched by this unusual display of deep emotions, she slips her arm around her husband and asks his thoughts.
"It's amazing," he says, "truly astounding.
"I just can't see how anybody can make a cot like this for only $46.50."
Until next week,
