Rock bottom - are we there yet?

In the second week of March, 2009, world stock markets bottomed out. They have since bounced up by about 50%.

If we view the stock market as a 6-ish month predictor of the broader economy (a tip from Shirlaws' 'Thrive, not Survive') this means we in business should be experiencing the general bottoming right about now.

So has your business experienced 'Decline 09'? Are we at the bottom yet? And are we about to experience a short-term bounce or a sustained recovery?

Most importantly, are you confident about how to lead your business through the next 12 months?

Thrive: Catch the First Wave
Shirlaws has begun delivering the next seminar in our Thrive series. Titled 'Thrive: Catch the First Wave' it takes a more practical look at business strategy over the next year. Places remain in Brisbane, and other events from Perth through to the UK, US, and New Zealand.

Is now the Time for Growth?
Some tips and tricks shared by an attendee at one of our 'Thrive, not Survive' workshops earlier this year. You might also be interested in a refresher on the common mistakes and opportunities of a recession.

How McDonalds won the Recession
Some businesses, even industries, have actually grown over the past twelve months. What sets them apart? "Luck ... which is a residue of good strategy."

Which countries survived the Recession
I'll be touching wood when reading this link, but it makes an interesting list - Brazil, India, China ... and Australia.

Intranet Joke of the Week

A professor was giving a big test one day to his students, handing all the questions out before returning to wait at his desk.
Once the test was over, each of the students lined up to hand their answers in. The professor noticed that one of the students had attached a $100 bill to his test with a note saying "Times are tough. A dollar per point."
One week later, the professor walked around the room handing the tests back. The student got $64 change.

Until next week,
