WHY SHOULD I HASH TAG EMSA?

Regular readers of the Shirlaws Business Links will know that this weekly email is designed to spark strategic thought and provide engaging, quirky and relevant links to business articles from around the globe.

Occasionally, we discuss our own business, particularly our email marketing discoveries. It was because of this that coach Jacob Aldridge was asked to speak at the Email Marketing Summit Australia late last week. Click here to find out more about the Summit

For those who weren't there, we would like to share some of the key learnings that will help inform and evolve this communication (and yours?) into the future.

Jacob's Presentation - Learning to your Advantage
In true coaching style, Jacob took the audience through the Why, What and How of Shirlaws' emails to date, with a particular focus on reviewing outcomes for improvement. It's currently being discussed in our LinkedIn Group.

Does Creativity Matter
A highlight for many was this brief video (<5 mins) from Rob Hudson. When asked if Creativity matters for sales and marketing, his team proved it did in a "wicked sick" (read: targeted) way!

Crisis Management in E-Marketing
Having witnessed their share of crises, Vision 6 prepared and shared a simple checklist for managing the inevitable. If only Virgin Blue had been there, one day before their foray into crisis folklore.

Hash Tag EMSA
Explaining this week's subject line is the Twitter code used to find discussions about the event - #emsa. Reading tweets in reverse chronological order is, well, almost like being there yourself.

Intranet Joke of the Week

Having mastered string theory, the Hadron Collider, and Twitter, a group of scientists decide that man no longer has a need for God. They select a spokesman to go and tell God that He is no longer required:

"God," the scientist says, "we've decided we no longer need you. We can handle miracles all on our own. So you can probably just go and get lost."

God, ever patient and kind, lets the scientist finish before responding. "Very well. But I'm not sure if that's the case. I believe we should have a man-making competition."

The scientist responds: "OK. Great."

"And," says God, "we will do this like I did in the old days. Back when I created Adam."

"Very well indeed." says the Scientist, who (egged on now by his supporters) bends down and collects a handful of dirt.

God looks down and shakes His infinite head. "Wait, wait, no, no, no. First, you have to get your own dirt."

Until next week,

Jacob Aldridge and the Shirlaws Team
