What I Did:

Summer in Richmond is wonderful time, and perfect to play host to our contacts. It never ceases to amaze me how people just love spending time with us - individually and as a business.

I started work with two new clients, both with a different mix of people. It was a great chance to get a deeper insight to the skills of the team and also a fresh energy for me personally. As the distribution network comes on line with quality pre-sold referrals, the profile of the client base is changing. One of our newest clients is one of the UK's finest stonemasons....working for the "who's who". The resulting client mix is creating a renewed energy for the team!

I also ran a coaching session for the management team and CEO of a new client. When asked the agenda three times by three different coaches, I replied, "Ask them what they would like to get out of the session and follow the Six Steps". The result was perfect. The best thing for me was the fact the CEO was a client of mine five years ago in another company!

What I Learnt:

When positioning the session, always connect the client's agenda and their outcomes to the vision of client. In each session, make sure that the client is closer to achieving their vision, both personally and commercially.

Have the courage to hold a space for the client to process their stuff.

Make sure to hold the context for each session, as most of the time the client will get a bit lost as they work through the issues.

What I Felt:

Excited by the changes and healing that I support for our clients; frustrated that at times very simple processes become overcomplicated; proud of the work that Adrian and I have put into the city-based distribution relationships; and acknowledged by a old client - by the fact he engaged me again after all this time!

Hi Australian Customer, It is great to receive feedback - thanks for being so open with us about your experience. When we did our Positioning exercise in 2006, I took on a lot of feedback from past and existing clients re the good, the bad and the ugly of working with Shirlaws. I feel that we have successfully incorporated the learnings into our new offering. We are always open to learning so please let me know of any feedback re your experiences.....I certainly feel we have grown up over the last couple of years!

I used Shirlaws in Australia and they completely missed the point. When questioned they threatened to walk out. Hope they have grown up since. And it was Darren !!!

Jim, Sounds like exciting times in the business and at Richmond as well. How are you managing to maintain your athletic prowess with all these competing tasks. Marc
