Kathryn Sandford

Kathryn joined Shirlaws as a business coach in 2005.  She brings her thorough background in education, training and organisational development and extensive experience across the private, public and corporate sectors to her current role.  Kathryn's strengths lie in her ability to intuitively grasp what motivates people and what blocks them in terms of their potential. She emphasises respect for culture and the importance of people in business whilst balancing this with the commercial goals of the organisation.

Kathryn's wide and varied career in learning and development started in teaching where she worked her way up to the position of Deputy Principal. She left education to apply her skills and experience to broader training and development fields and, over the next five years, held internal, consultant and advisory roles in organisational development for key government agencies.

In 1993, she became a founding partner of Shape Associates, working in bicultural strategy and policy implementation. Six years later, she took on a business consulting role providing strategic and business development support for clients including Telecom, NZAA, AMP Insurance, Vodafone and Mighty River Power. From 2002, she was also a director of Positive Influence, where she developed coaching products in the form of personal assessment tools, workshops and on-line career searches.

Alongside of coaching Kathryn leads a busy life in Auckland with her husband and a 15 year son who both have a passion as participants and spectators for all "sport" and a 12 year old daughter who competes in National Maori Kapahaka (Cultural Dance) Competitions and loves to shop.
